Dewi Makes

Educator, Entrepreneur, and Advocate for Social Impact
  • Education and Academic Commitment

Dewi graduated from the University of Indonesia and the Université Paris-Sorbonne. She has since devoted herself to teaching, serving as a long-standing faculty member at the Department of French Studies, Faculty of Humanities, University of Indonesia. Her passion for language, architecture, culture, and education runs deep, shaping her approach to both business and social development.
  • A Heart for Community

Beyond the classroom, Dewi has been actively involved in a number of social causes. She currently serves as Chairperson of Rumah Plataran Indonesia, Hope Ambassador for Wahana Visi Indonesia, and Chair of the Childhood Cancer Pillar at Lions Club Jakarta Monas Movast. She also contributes to various health and awareness programs through her role in the Fundraising Division of the Indonesian Heart Foundation as well as the Indonesian Pediatric Oncology Foundation.

Her enthusiasm for social engagement began early. As Dewi explains, the joy of helping others has always been her source of energy and purpose. “Since I was a child, I've felt more alive when I can help those in need,” she says. This mindset is what drives her continuous involvement in programs that serve vulnerable communities.
  • Plataran Indonesia: A Business with a Social Core

Founded in 2009 with her husband, Plataran Indonesia was built on three guiding pillars: nature, culture, and community. Under Dewi's leadership, Plataran has become a reflection of Indonesia's rich heritage, with each property highlighting the beauty of its local environment and traditions. But beyond its award-winning resorts and venues, Plataran serves a greater mission—to preserve nature, uphold cultural legacy, and empower local people.

For Dewi, the brand's motto “For Indonesia and Indonesians” is not a slogan, but a way of operating. She ensures that Plataran's business practices—from sourcing to staffing—prioritize sustainability, cultural respect, and meaningful impact.
  • Literacy and Empowerment in Sumba

One of Dewi's most transformative projects is Rumah Plataran Sumba, a small community hub in Tambolaka, Southwest Sumba. What began as a simple reading house has evolved into a center of learning and empowerment. There, children access quality books and English lessons, while women participate in weaving workshops and nutrition programs. “I saw a fourth-grade student who still couldn't read fluently,” Dewi recalls. “That moment stayed with me—it made me want to do more.”
  • A Vision for Collective Humanity

Looking ahead, Dewi hopes that Plataran continues to be a space where people come to learn, reflect, and share. Personally, her dream is to see more people inspired to give back—whether through time, skills, or resources. She often wonders why those with the ability to help so rarely do so. “Giving doesn't have to be grand,” she says. “A small act can mean the world to someone else.”

Through her leadership and compassion, Dewi Makes continues to champion a vision of Indonesia where prosperity is shared, culture is celebrated, and kindness is a daily practice
