From City Runs to Eco Futures at Pelari Berpesta

What better way to honor 80 years of independence than by lacing up your shoes early in the morning? Pelari Berpesta turned the streets into a celebration of freedom, fitness, and fun. Add a twist of eco-purpose, and you get a festival that is more than a jog.

Celebrating Independence Through Movement and Meaning
Held on Sunday morning, 17 August  2025, Pelari Berpesta gathered 200 runners at Plataran Senayan for an 8-kilometer fun run, symbolizing 80 years of independence. The event pulsed with energy, combining exercise, music, coffee, and games into one lively package. More than a sporting event, it was a reminder that freedom is also about movement, joy, and community. Designed as an inclusive and sustainable running culture, Pelari Berpesta carved out space for health and happiness amid Jakarta's urban pace. It showed how tourism in Indonesia is increasingly shaped by lifestyle and experience, not just destination.

Within the buzzing crowd, Legend of the Equator brought its own flavor to the festivities. Known for expeditions that blend exploration with environmental stewardship, the team staged a mini activation inside the bigger event. Their presence was not just symbolic, it was a reminder that independence also means taking ownership of the nation's ecological future. The group's mission aligns seamlessly with the Indonesian ecotourism network, which promotes travel and community events that sustain both people and the planet. Through this participation, they turned a run into a message, showing that fitness and sustainability can sprint together.

Growing Futures Through Travel and Eco Initiatives
As part of their mini-event, Legenda Khatulistiwa distributed 100 plant seeds, inviting participants to literally grow the future. They also offered vouchers for Menjangan Ecolodge, their expedition base in Bali. This ecolodge sits within West Bali National Park, a stronghold of biodiversity and home to the rare Bali Starling, and has become a hub for responsible travel and conservation initiatives. The gifts were more than souvenirs, they were prompts to take the spirit of the run into daily life. By connecting runners in Jakarta to nature sanctuaries in Bali, the activation showed how tourism in Indonesia can bridge cities and wild landscapes.

This collaboration was more than a giveaway, it was a statement. Legenda Khatulistiwa's gesture signaled that small actions, planting a seed, visiting an ecolodge, choosing ethical travel, all build momentum for national progress. Supporting such initiatives contributes directly to the vision of the Indonesian ecotourism network, where communities, travelers, and ecosystems thrive together. Just as every stride in the run moved participants closer to the finish line, each eco-conscious choice moves the nation toward a healthier, more resilient future. Independence, after all, is best celebrated by ensuring generations to come inherit both freedom and forests.

Pelari Berpesta was not just a run, it was a festival of freedom and foresight. With runners energized, seeds planted, and eco-stories shared, the event proved that independence can be celebrated in style and purpose. In the rhythm of footsteps and the planting of hope, the morning showed how movement and meaning can go hand in hand. And perhaps, how the next 80 years of Indonesia can be both joyful and sustainable.
